In early 2013, my family's world was turned upside down. My younger brother, Nic (25) was diagnosed with an aggressive form of Leukaemia and required urgent treatment. Nic and I grew up in Sheffield, Tasmania but at the time of his diagnosis he was living in Adelaide with his fiancee.
The next 10 months Nic fought couragously. He endured chemotherapy, radiation treatment and a bone marrow transplant.
Nic lost his battle on 1 Jan 2014. He didn't get to come back to Tasmania which he so desparately wanted to do. Not a day goes by without me thinking about Nic.
Its crazy when you think about how many people are living with cancer. 2013 was a terrible year with lots of new situations and unknowns. Since then I have truly realised how important organisations like the Leukaemia Foundation are to helping make the journey just a little less crazy. That is why we are wanting to give something back - all the while fullfilling Nic's dream to ride again in Tassie.
