Please help me run the New York Marathon 2017 to raise funds in the fight against blood cancer.
Why the NY Marathon? Earlier this year my mother was diagnosed with advanced cancer - sadly, she was diagnosed with two different types of cancer simultaneously. This diagnosis came as a devasting shock. It took me back to 14 years ago, when my father was also diagnosed with advanced cancer; his battle lasted barely 12 months. Watching him battle his cancer with so much courage, and caring for him as the disease relentlessly consumed him, shattered me and all my family. Soon after his death I turned to running as an outlet for my grief; as a way of letting go of the pain and the memories of his illnes. Running helped me breathe my way through those dark weeks, months, and years that followed his death.
This time I have decided to face my mother's cancer by turning to running sooner, rather than later. I have never run a marathon before - not even close. I know the goal of the NY marathon will help harness the strength that I will need to support my mother, as she now confronts her diagnosis of cancer and battles her illness.
Sadly cancer touches all of our lives - I have many friends and family members who have been diagnosed with cancer of various types; some have survived and some have now passed on. Amongst the bravest people I have had the honour of knowing are those that have fought blood cancer, including some very young and courageous heros.
My run towards, and in the NY Marathon this year, will help in the fight against Leukaemia by raising much needed funds, and it will help me, stay strong and healthy, so that I can support my mother, in her battle with cancer.
Please support me and those fighting against Leukamia with your donation. We can fight against cancer if we all pull together and support one another.
I very much appreciate your generosity and support. You will be running every step along the way with me in New York this November.
Thank you!
Rita
