This coming April we will be trekking to Everest Base Camp in an effort to raise money and awareness for Leukaemia. It's not something that we planned for and we certainly never considered it as something we would do. It is easy to be complacent until something impacts you directly.
One Sunday we were sitting in the lounge having dinner with Mum and catching up with the week that was. The following Thursday we were pulled aside in a hospital corridoor surrounded by Doctors, nurses and specialists telling us it's Leukaemia and it's a miracle Mum was even still with us given her white blood cell count was through the roof. 8 months later we sat by Mum's bed trying to find a way to say goodbye... trying to articulate the words, feelings and events of a lifetime without your mum. Something that no-one is ever ready to do but even more so when it is due to something so random, so unpredictable, so unfair.
Leukaemia can happen to anyone. It does not discriminate between age, gender, lifestyle or wealth. Today alone there are 35 people in Australia being confronted with the news that they have blood cancer. That's 35 more reasons that we want to raise money for the Leukaemia Foundation in order that one day (in the not so distant future we hope) no-one will ever have to say goodbye to a loved one due to Leukaemia.
We are asking you to dig deep. We aren't doing this to simply raise a minimum amount and make a minimum impact. We are here to work towards making as much of a difference as we can in vital future research in treatments and cures and to support the 60,000 people in Australia who have blood cancer right now.
We had to say goodbye... BUT, maybe if we can make a difference in the scheme of things..maybe you won't have to.
