My Message

On the evening of Saturday 10 October, I am taking part in Light the Night because blood cancer has touched my life and my loved ones lives. The Lukeimia Foundation helped Trish Butler; our loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, Aunty and friend. They helped accomodate herself and her husband Ted. They offered amazing care and support in a hard time. I pledge to raise $1,000 or more in her honour so they can continue to help families going through this. In late December 2017 our beloved Trish was diagnosed with multiple myeloma. A form of blood cancer that multiplies and damages bones, the immune system, kidneys and red blood count. Trish received treatment at the Wesley Hospital in Brisbane. After being discharged from a spinal fusion in February 2018 the Lukeimia Foundation provided accommodation at the ESA Village Brisbane for Trish and her husband Ted. A beautiful village with lovely gardens and amazing support staff. It was a God send that the foundation provided this accommodation. The foundation provided my Aunty and Uncle with a home while undergoing chemotherapy treatment until they could return back home to Cairns. In May 2018 Trish was re-admitted into hospital with severe chest pain, this turned out to be a fracture to her sternum. While this was being investigated she suffered a bilateral hip fracture. She had surgery to repair the fractures and pulled through the surgery better than the doctors expected. Trish stayed in hospital until July; Ted was able to stay in the village the whole time, free of charge, thanks to the foundation. Following rehab Trish returned to the village in Dutton Park. She was slowly getting worse, movement becoming more and more difficult. She was admitted into the Princess Alexandra Hospital on October 15th 2018 for two weeks before being medivaced to Cairns. Throughout all this the foundation provided accommodation, free of charge. That’s what the Lukeimia Foundation does. They also provide transport for residents to get treatment regardless of what hospital their treatment is at. They also provide funds for research into Lukeimia. Trish made it back to her home in Forest Gardens in June 2019. On the 17th she was admitted back into hospital before returning home on the 22nd. Trish remained at home until her passing on the 22nd of August 2019 surrounded by her loved ones. Funds raised through this special event provide families facing blood cancer with the care needed to make it through every scary, uncertain moment that follows a diagnosis. Please help me reach my goal and sponsor me to Light the Night for Trish and all others touched by blood cancer.
