My Message
Hi all,
Life threw me a curve ball on 29th July when I was diagnosed with Non Hodgkin Diffuse B-Cell with Follicular Lymphoma. I have been undergoing chemotherapy treatment as an inpatient at the Wesley Hospital for the last 5 weeks. The prognosis is good, the treatment is having a positive impact on the disease and I am confident about achieving a positive outcome at the completion of my treatment.
September is Lymphoma awareness month and the 15th is World Lymphoma Day. Lymphoma is a blood disorder and The Leukemia Foundation does an amazing job raising money to support research, patients, etc.. into all forms of blood related cancers.
Lymphoma is the 6th most common cancer in Australia and whilst people of any age can develop lymphoma, it is among the most common causes of cancer in children and young adults aged 15–24 years.
Sadly, not everyone is able to deal with the financial strain a cancer diagnosis places on them and they may also need to relocate for treatment. When you combine this with the emotional and physical stress of the situation it can be overwhelming. $80 will keep a family together, providing accommodation when they have had to urgently relocate for treatment. $1,000 will enable a state-of-the-art tube gene test to personalise treatment for the best chance of survival.
Light The Night, is an event being held by organised by the Leukemia foundation to raise money for its ongoing activities. Given the COVID restrictions the event is designed for people to hold a dinner party, BBQ, or any gathering of friends on the 10th of October, you can find more details at the attached link.
I have established a fundraising page to help support the Leukemia Foundation and the amazing work they do. I have pledged to raise a minimum of $15,000 and would greatly appreciate it if you could donate, to assist them continue to provide the services they do.
Thank you in anticipation of your support no matter how big or small, every $1 will make a difference to someone’s life.
Shane
PS I was lucky to get out of hospital and celebrated my eldest daughter Brittany’s wedding to Jack on the weekend 26th September. Was fantastic to spend an amazing time with my 3 Angel daughters who have made coping with this so much easier.
