My Message
I am taking part in Light the Night on Saturday, 10 October 2020 because blood cancer has touched my life.
On Tuesday, 4 August 2020, we received the devastating news that by darling nephew Chase had been diagnosed with Leukaemia.
The immediate moments that followed were incredibly overwhelming for my sister and brother-in-law, whose lives were turned upside in blink of an eye as they were forced to deal with one of life’s biggest curve balls.
Within hours of his diagnosis, Chase had been admitted to the Queensland Children’s Hospital. Within 48 hours, his little 4-year-old body had undergone his first of many general anaesthetics including the insertion of a port, chemotherapy, a bone marrow aspiration and biopsy and a lumbar puncture.
Since then, Chase has undergone 5 weeks of intensive treatment, partly as an in-patient and partly as an out-patient living in an apartment in Brisbane with his family. Getting through those 5 weeks would have been near impossible without the help of our community in delivering home cooked meals and care packages, as well as the immediate support and financial assistance provided to get Chase relocated to Brisbane.
Chase has been lucky enough to return home for now, but as a family, they know they have a long road ahead with years of treatment.
I am holding this event to take a moment to breathe, and to celebrate Chasey boy and his utter strength and bravery.
Funds raised through this special event provide families facing blood cancer with the care needed to make it through every scary, uncertain moment that follows a diagnosis.
I have seen first-hand just how much that immediate funding and support can assist a family in the aftermath of a life-changing diagnosis.
Donations also transform fear into hope in miraculous, life-changing ways by furthering the work of brilliant research scientists.
This research is saving lives right now as it continues to discover faster diagnostics and even better treatments for people with blood cancer.
My goal of $560 will provide a family facing blood cancer who live far away from life-saving treatment with a week of accommodation.
Please help me reach my goal and sponsor me to Light the Night.
