I’m helping to beat blood cancer by taking part in the Leukaemia Foundation’s World’s Greatest Shave!
*UPDATE* Shaved on 1/1/21! After hitting $5k I did a dodgy home bleach job on Christmas, and was very glad to chop it all off. Thanks to everyone who has donated and supported me through my absurd efforts in 2020!
2020 marks the 15th anniversary of my mum Liz's diagnosis, treatment, stem-cell transplant, and recovery from Acute Myeloid Leukaemia. As a child I knew the diagnosis was serious, but over the last 4 years of studying medicine I've been able to put it into true context. I couldn't imagine the last 15 years without mum - but it's crazy to think how close we came to that being reality.
The Leukaemia Foundation was an amazing support to our family in 2005. Their publications taught lil' Liam what leukaemia was (and how to spell it), they put a roof over our heads for 6 months in the Brisbane CBD, and they gave us Christmas presents to top it all off. I would love to raise as much money as possible to give back to the group that gave so much to our family.
To celebrate her survival I'm growing my hair and beard for the whole of my gap year. I had both shaved at 2am on New Year's day, and after growing for 366 days I'm shaving them both again on the 1st of Jan 2021.
