I’m helping to beat blood cancer by taking part in the Leukaemia Foundation’s World’s Greatest Shave!
We all hate cancer! Some of us have had it and beat it and others have supported a loved one during the fight of their life which they've won. Then, unfortunately, a lot of us have lost someone we love to this awful disease.
When my dad was 34 he lost his life 5 months after being diagnosed with not just one type but 3 different types of Leukaemia (there are 4). Now my mum, at 58 has just been diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer.
I always wanted to participate in shave for a cure but I was too vain and somehow have found a way to never sign up. After we found out about my mum's diagnosis 3 weeks ago, my hair suddenly didn't seem important. Nothing like that did. I would give anything if it meant my mum would be around for years to come and be able to watch her grandchildren grow up. Anything! I know that participating in this does not guarantee me that but, as many of you know, when someone you love has to go head to head with this beast you feel so helpless. All you want to do is wrap them up and protect them from what is to come. My mum is strong. She is the toughest cookie I know. She has defied the odds so far and I have no doubt she will continue too. For me, this is something teeny tiny I can control in a time when everything seems so out of my control. Please support me if you can. 2 dollars or 10 dollars, it all adds up and goes to a great cause. Hair Schmair! Since I had the twins it is constantly oily and stuck in a top knot anyway. So hair be gone and money be raised to help in finding a cure. So that in the future our children never have to know or experience what we do!
