I’m helping to beat blood cancer by taking part in the Leukaemia Foundation’s World’s Greatest Shave!
This Sunday (8/11) I’m going to be shaving my head to raise money for the Leukemia Foundation.
As I’m sure many of you know, in 2014, a couple of days before his fourth birthday, my little brother Harry was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, a type of blood cancer. The shock of the news rattled my family and what followed was difficult for everyone, especially Harry. Cancer treatment is rough, it requires long stays in hospital, painful procedures and powerful medications with intense side effects. Perhaps the worst feeling of all though, was not being able to explain to Harry why we are allowing these things to happen to him. It was a rough time for Harry and my family. And still, we are some of the lucky ones. For Harry, the treatment worked. Meet Harry now and you’ll meet a healthy 10 year old boy who can’t decide between playing for the crows or becoming a parkour pro and who demonstrates a level of kindness that I can only hope to emulate someday. Unfortunately though, for many kids who are dealt this hand, the outcome isn’t so good. But this doesn’t have to be the reality. Leukaemia treatments are improving at a rapid rate, and through donating to charities such as the Leukemia foundation, you can help them achieve their goal of no lives lost to blood cancer by 2035. By donating you will also be helping provide families with access to transport, accommodation, support networks and more. I can’t overemphasise how important these services are to the individuals and families who have just been hit with the shock of their lives.
Thank you for reading this. This is something very close to my heart and it will mean the world to my family and I to do our bit to help those in situations less fortunate than our own. So please click the link in my bio and donate, every little bit is appreciated.
Cheers,
James and the Killian Family
