I’m helping to beat blood cancer by taking part in the Leukaemia Foundation’s World’s Greatest Shave!
I am working with the Leukaemia Foundation to urge Aussies to make it their mission to defeat blood cancer by signing up to World’s Greatest Shave, just like me. This February, I will be shaving my hair on live TV with a goal of raising money and raising awareness for this very important cause.
Here are the facts!
7 in 10 Australians do not know that blood cancers combined are the second most common cancer and second highest cause of cancer-related deaths in Australia.
4 in 5 Australians are not confident in recognising the main symptoms of blood cancer which include recurrent infections, increased fatigue, night sweats, bone pain, bruising and enlarged lymph nodes. With the recent increase of Omicron COVID-19 cases, there is a risk of blood cancer symptoms being mistaken for the virus, making raising awareness of blood cancer symptoms more important than ever before.
Blood cancer affects over 110,000 Australians every year with 50 people a day newly diagnosed.
Almost 6 in 10 Australians are unaware that blood cancer sadly remains the most commonly diagnosed childhood cancer in Australia, accounting for over 45% of all cancer diagnoses. With over 400 children (aged 0-14) diagnosed with blood cancer in Australia each year, parents must be aware of the symptoms and when to seek medical advice to avoid a delay in diagnosis and to increase their child’s chance of survival.
Please join me in the fight against blood cancer, and register for World’s Greatest Shave too by downloading the app or by signing up online at www.worldsgreatestshave.com.
