I’m helping to beat blood cancer by taking part in the Leukaemia Foundation’s World’s Greatest Shave!
My youngest son Elliott (22yrs) was diagnosed with leukaemia on March 12th last year. We were all devastated, but a year on, Elliott is doing pretty well (8 months post bone marrow transplant). The Leukaemia Foundation funds research that helps people like Elliott to survive.
Another reason I am shaving is to promote more young people (18-35yrs) to join the Australian bone marrow register. One in three patients who need a bone marrow transplant rely on the ABMDR or other international registries to find a suitable match. Being a bone marrow or stem cell donor means you may be able to give someone like Elliott the possibility of a cure..
I will be shaved by Elliott on Saturday, March 19th at the 50:50 Charity Brisbane Lions home game at the Gabba during halftime.
