My Message
As the sun sets on Friday, 30 September, our family will be taking part in ‘Light the Night’. This is a fundraiser that I never in a million years imagined to hit so close to home.
It’s true what they say, when blood cancer touches a life, it can feel like the beginning of a long, dark night.
I’ve come to learn that most often with blood cancer treatment it is complex and urgent. On top of this, life-saving care can be far from home.
When I was diagnosed with blood cancer, I spent all of my treatment in hospital. I was three hours away from home and unaware in the beginning that I would go on to spend four months away from my family. Mykayla also picked up her life to follow me, regardless of the fact that she didn’t have ‘home’ to return to after a long day with me in hospital.
Because of amazing fundraisers like this one, Kayla was given a place to stay and endless amounts of support to simply be there with me every step of the way.
Funds raised through this special event will ensure someone will be there for families through every scary, uncertain moment following a blood cancer diagnosis.
Even more, these donations help transform fear into hope by furthering the work of brilliant research scientists who have already done what I consider to be some pretty damn miraculous work.
I will be lighting a white lantern to represent my blood cancer journey. My beautiful family will be holding blue ones as a symbol of their support.
Along my cancer journey, Mykayla and I met some amazing people. Two with a very similar diagnosis to me. Two who have since lost their lives to blood cancer 💔
We will be holding two yellow lanterns in memory of Joshua and Jason 💛
Please help us reach our goal by donating to my Light the Night.
