I’m helping to beat blood cancer by taking part in the Leukaemia Foundation’s World’s Greatest Shave!
Not so long ago, my family shared our home with some friends who had a son who was unwell and needed to travel for regular appointments to Westmead Children's Hospital all the way from the mid-north coast. Over the course of his Leukaemia diagnosis, we saw the strength he and his family had to muster to get through this, and the long road ahead. Tragically the cancer overcame this young guy (who would have been in his 30s today) and I wanted to participate in fundraising this year because time doesn't make this any less tragic. Now I just know more people going through it, I'm just not as deep in it as I was all those years ago.
This one is for you James, and even more for your Mumma, who is often like a mumma for all who know her!
With no screening programs available and no means of prevention through lifestyle changes, blood cancer is Australia's hidden cancer crisis.
Every day, 53 Aussies are diagnosed with blood cancer, and 16 will lose their life.
We can't delay taking action together.
That's why I've decided to take part in the Leukaemia Foundation's World's Greatest Shave.
I'll be raising crucial funds that help give those facing blood cancer all the support and information they need, while driving breakthrough research projects discovering better ways to diagnose and treat blood cancer.
