I’m helping to beat blood cancer by taking part in the Leukaemia Foundation’s World’s Greatest Shave!
As some of you may be aware, my brother's daughter, my niece, was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia in May last year. A rare bone marrow cancer affecting around 50 Australians aged 0-14 every year.
Hearing that your 8-month-old niece has been diagnosed with one of the rarest forms of childhood leukaemia before her first birthday is truly devastating. This period was incredibly difficult for myself and my family, but no more than for my brother Danny, his wife Megan and their children, William and Ruby.
The Leukaemia Foundation has gone above and beyond to support my brother's family throughout the entirety of Ruby's cancer treatment.
As a sign of appreciation for being able to witness the incredible work the foundation does for people and families living with blood cancers, I have decided to shave and donate my hair.
Blood cancer is Australia's hidden cancer crisis. There are 140,000 families facing blood cancer right now. And it takes the lives of 16 Australians every day.
These numbers are set to double by 2035.
By shaving my hair and raising funds, we can help the leukaemia foundation support thousands of more families, just like my own, who are battling or have a loved one battling blood cancers.
There is no donation too big or too small. Every cent goes towards a foundation that truly makes a difference in the lives of Australian families.
