I’m helping to beat blood cancer by taking part in the Leukaemia Foundation’s World’s Greatest Shave!
2 weeks ago I listened to my Dad talk on Southern FM radio about his experiences with the 3 primary cancers he has been diagnosed with, two of which are blood cancers. I had an overwhelming urge to show my appreciation and support for the incredible organisations that provide so much care and assistance to people and their families who are dealing with cancer. So here I am
I'm raising funds for the Leukaemia Foundation to give Australians facing blood cancer life-changing practical and emotional support. Your money will also go toward critical research, bringing us closer to the day when zero lives are lost to blood cancer.
I will also be cutting at least 30cm off my hair to donate to the World's Greatest Shave Ponytails, which will then be sent to wigmakers.
If I raise in excess of $5000, I will shave my head to ensure my ponytails are as long as they possibly can be. In doing this I hope to be a role model to my kids and students, challenge stereotypes, and demonstrate the value of choosing to do something for the benefit of others who don't have a choice.
The facts:
Blood cancer is Australia's hidden cancer crisis. There are 140,000 families facing blood cancer right now. And it takes the lives of 16 Australians every day.
These numbers are set to double by 2035. Unless we do something about it. That's why I've signed up for the World's Greatest Shave.
