For those of you who dont know, I have blood cancer. Multiple Myeloma (MM) to be precise. It's an incurable cancer which I am taking a daily dose of a thalidomide based drug to help keep it in check. It has been a huge battle and life changing going through the chemo treatment and stem cell transplant. One day the cancer will come back and I'll need to do battle once more. I dont know whether that will be weeks, months or years away however I consider myself to be one of the lucky one's who has MM as I was diagnosed pretty early and have not suffered severe bone deterioration like many others with MM.
When I saw this trek advertised in the Leukaemia newsletter I knew it was for me. To spend 5 days treking along the Great Wall of China whilst raising money for a worthy cause is going to be a huge challenge both mentally and physically. My knees are shot and my body aches from the medication but I know this challenge has given me a huge goal to aim for. I hope in doing this to also give some inspiration to those people who have recently been diagnosed with MM, there is life after diagnosis. I will be hitting the gym to get ready as best I can by June 2019 and I need your help.
I'm fundraising for the Leukaemia Foundation who provide research and support services to all the blood cancers (Myeloma, Leukaemia and Lymphoma). We need to find a cure for these and other cancers so money goes towards research but also the money goes towards supporting patients and their families during treatment and recovery. Many people have to relocate to the big smoke while they're going through the chemo so the Leukaemia Foundation provide accommodation, transport and other practical and emotional support.
Please help me reach my goal, in fact help me blow this goal out of the water.
Today, 35 Australians will get the news they have blood cancer. Across Australia, 60,000 people are going through this in right now - please sponsor me and help me reach my goal.
